Acknowledging Your Candidates’ Applications continued:

Tip #4: Provide a link where candidates can check the status of their application.

Candidates should not be kept in limbo wondering whether the two-week radio silence since their application was acknowledged means their application is still under consideration or that a different candidate has been selected and the role is no longer open.

  • Example #1: Hello. Thank you for expressing interest in the Senior Human Resources Business Partner position at our company. Please click here to create a password for your account. You can use this to check the status of your application(s). This link will expire in 72 hours.

  • Example #2: At any time, you may log back into your profile and check the status of your submission by creating a Candidate Home account and logging into to check your application. Please use this link to create or view your candidate home account.

  • Example #3: Creating your Candidate Home Account is the last step. This account allows you to view your application status and access application-related tasks throughout the process. To begin, select the Continue button below. This will take you to the Workday Candidate Account Sign-In page. Once you are there, select the Create Account option.

Depending upon the functionality of your Human Resources Information System, providing a link may not be feasible. As an alternative, contact your candidates with a status update within a reasonable time of acknowledging their application.

  • Example #1: We’ve been humbled by the response to our Program Development Manager, Professional Education opening. Over 750 applications in less than a week! With so many impressive candidates, we’re giving each résumé the careful consideration it deserves. Over the next 1-2 weeks, you’ll hear from us with an update on your status. Thank you again for bringing your expertise in program development to the table. Hang tight, we’ll be in touch soon!

  • Example #2: Hello Penelope. Thank you for your patience and time as we continue to search for the next Senior Account Executive at Zenith Industries. I’m writing to inform you that we are still reviewing candidates and will have an idea of next steps after September 15. We want to thank you again for your interest in Zenith Industries and look forward to speaking with you soon.

Tip #5: Provide links to your organization’s corporate site and social media pages.

Nowadays candidates are savvy enough to conduct research on potential employers and gather intelligence to determine compatibility with their personal work ethos. In addition to scouting employee and candidate reviews on sites like Glassdoor and Indeed, they’re visiting your corporate site and exploring your social media platforms. However, chances are candidates may not be reaching the holy grail information that provides a sightline into what sets your company apart from the competition.

Include specific links where candidates can learn more about your company’s culture and dive deeper into what it’s like to work there. Or links to pages featuring recent philanthropy that personifies your values, a press release announcing the exciting launch of your latest innovation, or a video testimonial from a client for whom your product or service had a life-changing impact.

  • Example #1: It’s an exciting time to join Safe Spaces for Survivors. Our work impacts people all around the country, including Jane Smith. You can read more about her inspiring story here. If you’re interested in learning more about life at SSFS, our colleagues, or the benefits you’ll enjoy as an employee, we invite you to explore the resources listed below.

  • Example #2: We encourage you to get to know our team a little better and get an inside look at what it's like to work here by following #XYZCompany on social and our XYZ Company Instagram page. Watch the two YouTube videos below to meet our CEO and Founder Frederick Slate and hear from members of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging team.
